Overview

Marc Krasner (1912-1985) est un des mathématiciens les plus originaux de sa génération. Il fut l'un des premiers jeunes chercheurs du CNRS, lors de sa création en France à la fin des années trente. En algèbre, sa formule pour le nombre des extensions finies d'un corps p-adique a fait sa renommée et il fut l'un des fondateurs de l'analyse ultramétrique. Cet ouvrage reproduit un choix d'articles de Krasner.
On y trouve aussi, en guise de préliminaire, deux longues lettres écrites par Krasner à son ami Paulo Ribenboim. Il y éclaire ses propres travaux et raconte sa vocation scientifique précoce, son enfance en URSS, l'émigration et la guerre.
